Honest answers

The questions everyone asks.

Straight answers about age limits, funding, and how RoleShift is different. If something is not here, just ask.

Am I too old to change careers?+

No. The average UK career-changer is 35, and over a quarter are 45+. Adult apprenticeships have no upper age limit, and plenty of employers actively prefer the maturity career-changers bring.

Aren't apprenticeships just for school leavers?+

Common misconception. Adult apprenticeships have no age cap - you can start one at 25, 35 or 55. The NHS, Civil Service, major banks and skilled trades all run programmes built specifically for career-changers.

Can I afford to take a pay cut to retrain?+

Most adult apprenticeships and trainee programmes pay you while you train, typically £22,000–£30,000 from day one. It's often a sideways move, not a pay cut - and the long-term trajectory is usually better.

How is this different from Indeed or LinkedIn?+

On most job boards, "entry-level" routinely means "2+ years of experience." We hand-check every listing and only include roles where the employer has explicitly said they hire on potential.

Is the career quiz scientifically validated?+

Honestly, no - and we wouldn't claim it is. It's a guided self-reflection tool, not a psychometric instrument. Treat your result as a starting point for thinking, not a verdict.

Is this free?+

Completely free for job seekers, always. RoleShift is funded by employer subscriptions for posting roles - you will never be asked to pay.
