A role only goes on RoleShift if the employer has confirmed they will consider people without prior industry experience. If a listing requires it, we do not publish it, however good the employer or the salary.
Every listing states a real salary or range. We do not accept "competitive salary" or "salary on application". Hidden pay wastes the time of exactly the people who can least afford to waste it.
Candidates never pay for anything: no premium tier, no unlock fees, no paid boosts. The business is funded by employers, and that will not change.
Every figure in our guides is checked against a primary source, usually government, NHS or Student Loans Company, and the sources are listed on the page with the date they were checked.
We are pre-launch and we say so. Sample listings are labelled as samples. Demos are labelled as demos. We would rather look small than look misleading.
Values are easy in a good month. These are the specific things we are committing not to do when someone offers us money to do them.
The people this site exists for are disproportionately those the usual hiring process filters out early: people without degrees, people who took time out to care for someone, people whose experience is in the wrong industry on paper.
Practically, that means we design for a phone first, because a large share of our visitors will not be job-hunting from a desk. It means plain English rather than HR language. It means the quiz is free and needs no signup, and that we say plainly it is a reflection tool rather than a psychometric test. And it means we write guides about funding, because for most people the barrier to retraining is money rather than motivation.
RoleShift has no revenue yet, so it would be dishonest to announce a charitable programme we cannot currently fund. What we can commit to now, and what follows once there is revenue, is set out plainly below.
Free listings for registered charities, social enterprises and community interest companies hiring on potential. The guides stay free, unpaywalled and open to anyone, including people who never use the job board.
A share of subscription revenue directed to UK organisations working on employment access and adult retraining, with the amount and recipients published openly rather than described vaguely.
Guides written specifically for groups that face additional barriers, including care leavers, ex-forces personnel, carers returning to work, and people with convictions, since all four have real routes that are poorly documented.
If you find something on this site that contradicts anything on this page, that is a bug and we would like to know. Tell us and we will either fix it or change this page, because a values page that quietly drifts from the product is worse than no values page at all.
